Wind is moving air due to the difference in pressure at the
Earth's surface. The wind moves from an area that has high pressure to an area
with lower pressure. Wind flow that occurs on the surface of the earth caused
by differences in air temperature in a region. Areas that receive greater solar
energy will have higher air temperatures and air pressure is lower so that
there will be differences in temperature and air pressure. Irregularities gusts
of wind caused the earth's surface structures such as the mountains and
valleys, the land and sea.
Wind Speed
Variations in wind speed in the region is needed to determine
its characteristics so that it can be used to calculate the duration of the
wind energy that can be harnessed to drive turbines.
The process of utilization of wind energy is done through
two stages of energy conversion, the first wind flow will drive the rotor
(blades) that causes the rotor to spin in harmony with the wind blowing, then
rotation of the rotor is connected to the generator, the generator is produced
by an electric current. The process of energy conversion stages starting from
the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy and then into electrical
energy rotor. The amount of electrical energy generated is influenced by
several factors including the following:
1. Rotor (wheel), the turbine rotor greatly varies in type,
diameter of the rotor is proportional to the electrical power. The larger the
diameter, the greater the electricity generated.
2. The wind speed, wind speed will affect the speed of
rotation of the rotor which will drive a generator.
3. Generators are divided into several different
characteristics, generator suitable for Wind Energy Conversion Systems (SKEA)
is a generator that could produce electricity at low rpm.
